Allow me to tell you a little more about me

I never really knew what I wanted to do when I left school. I now think that was a blessing because I didn’t fall into the stress of year 12 exams and university acceptance letters. From a young age I was always interested in health, whole foods and superfoods. I would buy magazines and read up on goji berries and whatever was new to the market… I can’t explain this, other than I found it interesting.

I went on to do a diploma of Beauty Therapy, and worked with the most beautiful women. What came so naturally to me was the relationships I built with my clients. When they came in for an appointment we’d pick right back up from where we left off last time. I loved that about my job, holding space for people and making them feel comfortable. However, I knew there was something else out there for me and took the leap and moved to Sydney where I worked in communications and marketing, which lead me to a job working at a leading health company at the time. It was then that I really started thinking about my future and what I really wanted to do. Did I want to be stuck in a career that had me tied to city life? Or did I want something that offered flexibility and balance that took me back to what I loved at my core… health!

And so at the prime age of 30 I enrolled in a 4-year degree… Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy).

What exactly is that degree? My studies were well rounded covering a multitude of subjects teaching us nutritional and herbal medicine, as well as covering off fundamentals such as psychology and counselling, human biology and pharmacology. The aim was to teach us traditional healing practices as well as modern science to encourage us to be critical thinkers. There are some gaps in the science that is currently available to us, and this is solely because the art of Naturopathy is that no client is the same, and no treatment is the same. If we were to prescribe the same thing for certain conditions, that is taking away from what we are at our core, we treat the individual, not the condition. While the science is extremely important for the future of our profession, we must not turn our backs on the traditional knowledge of herbal medicine passed down through history from indigenous cultures the world over. Cultures who used whole plant medicines for remedies with great success, and not just one constituent that was proven in a scientific study.

When I finally made it through all the theory into student clinic, I knew I was home, when I started seeing clients and holding space for them, it felt right. And then in the midst of my degree I became a mother, by far my greatest (and most challenging) role to date. This experience has given me such a great appreciation for what women are capable of if we believe in ourselves. I have always been drawn to working with women through the lifestyle, and my own experience has only deepened my desire to educate as many women as I can. What I see so often is women who hear all of the horror stories of pregnancy and motherhood and are left a little apprehensive, with a lack of belief in themselves… and I want to change that!

With the help of diet and lifestyle modifications, herbal medicine and nutritional supplementation, I can assist you with a range of conditions that may be causing you dis-ease. Visit my services page to find out more.
